| Collection Strategies: Cash for College
By Conrad Melancon
Are you in college or do you have someone in your family who is? Are you interested in learning how to make some extra money without a ton of effort or huge startup costs?
Just think about the numbers for a moment. There are currently close to 20 million adults enrolled in colleges throughout the U.S., and the vast majority of them are cell phones users. Additionally, people between the ages of 18-29 are the most likely to change their cell phones more often than the national average of every 18 months. What does this mean for you – lots of opportunity!
Millions of cell phones are being replaced on college campuses each year and most of them still carry some type of value on www.CellforCash.com.
Remember, less than 5% of all cell phones being replaced each year are currently being sold, given to charity or recycled. How can you take advantage of this statistic and turn it into some cold, hard cash? Here are the steps I would follow:
- Download and read our e-book For Cell by Owner – The Cell Phone Recycling Guide.
- Check to see if there is already an active recycling program on campus. In many cases you’ll find that cell phones are not included in the schools sponsored program.
- If there is a program, see who runs it and ask if you can assist them – find out what they are doing with the phones. If there isn’t a program, start your own and see if the school will promote it on campus with the main recycling program.
- Way to promote your program:
- Sign up as an affiliate on www.CellforCash.com.
- Post information in the school newsletter or paper.
- Place flyers in the student union, bookstore and other places where students tend to get together.
- Talk to fraternities, sororities, and other groups on campus to see if they are interested in collecting phones as a fundraiser or environmental event.
- Advertise your service at sporting events. See if the athletic boosters or other groups would be willing to promote your efforts at school events.
- Hold recycling events on campus – specifically targeting cell phones.
I have only listed a few ideas above, and I’m sure that if you put your mind to it you could come up with hundreds of ways to collect old cell phones on campus. Remember, the toughest part is getting the word out to people and getting them to give you their old phones. Once you have them in hand, you can use Cell for Cash to turn them into money. If you collect a lot of phones then give us a call, and we can give you some streamlined methods to get the phones to us so you can spend more time collecting them.
