| What Does your Ringtone Reveal About Your Personality?
By Linda Zimmerman
A sales person I know has “Stairway to Heaven” play when his phone rings. It’s easy to see he likes his job and looks forward to sales calls. Then there’s the quiet young man in the corner who listens to “Mobe” from Damien Marley when someone calls him. Yes, he is laid back and calm.
Do you ever listen to a ringtone and imagine the person behind that phone? Mike Musgrove, A WASHINGTON POST columnist did a survey of personalities and their ringtones (April 29, 2007, p. F01). Here are some of the sounds he found.
Greta Van Susteren, FOX NEWS personality, has a different ring for different members of her family—“Hello Dolly” for her sister, “Twilight Zone” for her brother, “American Bandstand” for her husband and the "William Tell Overture" plays when her producer calls. That must makes it easy for her to decide if she is too busy to talk to someone.
Chris Daughtry’s “It’s Not Over” is the ringtone for Mitch Bainwol, Chairman/CEO of the RIAA. I wonder if Mr. Bainwol changes his ringtones when new American Idols are chosen. Manny Acta, the Washington Nationals Manager, picked the “Law and Order Theme” for his ringtone—would have guessed that one would be used by a States Attorney. “Imperial March” from Star Wars is the sound the proud Chef at Oyamel, Joe Raffa, plays.
Neither the President nor the Vice President carry cell phones, and political-thriller novelist Brad Meltzer commented that “Only a fool isn’t on vibrate at all times—especially in D.C.”
At the end of the day, a young lady leaving the office told me her ringtone was “Tide is High” by Blondie. I wonder if that was just because it was the end of the work day.
