These aren’t perfect solutions to two items that can add cost to our mobile experience, but they won’t cost you anything. One of them will also give you up to 10% off your AT&T bill!
Free Phone Insurance
The recently upgraded AT&T Universal Savings & Reward Card offers up to $100 reimbursement (after a $50 deductible) if your cell phone (any carrier) is lost or stolen. This won’t fully cover you if you have an expensive phone, but it could be useful for many of us. This benefit comes at no cost when you get the Card. Some restrictions apply; see the offer for full details.
For AT&T and former Cingular customers, there is an even better benefit. The card will reimburse you up to 10% of the cost of AT&T products and services, including your wireless phone bill, for 12 months; 5% thereafter.
The AT&T Universal card has no annual fee and offers a 0% introductory APR on balance transfers for 12 months.

Free Directory Assistance
As you likely know if you’ve ever used it, cell phone directory assistance is painfully expensive, usually running $1.50 or more per occurrence. However, a company called 1-800-FREE411 offers it for free. The catch…. you have to listen to a short ad before they give you the number. You can dial the number from any phone (home or cell). If you call from a cell, the airtime counts just like any other call you make, but there is no charge for directory assistance.
